Latest find at ex-children's home...
Latest find at ex-children's home may be more human remains. FRAGMENTS of bone, which could be human remains, have been found by officers excavating the former Jersey children's home at the centre of a major abuse investigation. Forensic teams at Haut de la Garenne found items at the same site where part of a child's skull was discovered on 23 February. Police said a sniffer dog, trained to find human remains, gave a strong reaction to the items. Deputy police chief Lenny Harper said: "We continued to excavate the first site at the house and have taken out a few items … they're possibly pieces of bone." The news came after the first picture of a "punishment room" at the former home was released, revealing a haunting message. On a wooden post against the wall of a secret chamber under the building was written: "I've been bad for years and years." Mr Harper said he did not know who had written the message or how old it was. Officers have excavated one underground chamber at the home and believe there might be three more. The chambers have been described by victims as punishment rooms where they were physically and sexually assaulted and kept in solitary confinement. More than 160 people claim they were abused while at Haut de la Garenne and the allegations of abuse go back about 40 years. There are 40 suspects and Mr Harper said a specialist team was at Jersey's ports in case any tried to escape…

Laffer curve - tax rate and revenue
The Laffer Curve, Part I: Understanding the Theory The Laffer Curve charts a relationship between tax rates and tax revenue. While the theory behind the Laffer Curve is widely accepted, the concept has become very controversial because politicians on both sides of the debate exaggerate. This video shows the middle ground between those who claim "all tax cuts pay for themselves" and those who claim tax policy has no impact on economic performance. This video, focusing on the theory of the Laffer Curve, is Part I of a three-part series. Part II reviews evidence of Laffer-Curve responses. Part III discusses how the revenue-estimating process in Washington can be improved. For more information please visit the Center for Freedom and Prosperity's web site: Freedom and prosperity…
Laffer curve part 2
The Laffer Curve, Part II: Reviewing the Evidence This video reviews real-world evidence showing that changes in marginal tax rates can have a significant impact on taxable income, thus leading to substantial amounts of revenue feedback. In a few cases, tax-rate reductions even "pay for themselves,'' though the key lesson is the more modest point that pro-growth changes in tax policy will have a positive impact on economic performance and that good tax cuts therefore do not "cost" the government much in terms of foregone tax revenue. This video is second installment of a three-part series. Part I reviews theoretical relationship between tax rates, taxable income, and tax revenue. Part III discusses how the revenue-estimating process in Washington can be improved. For more information please visit the Center for Freedom and Prosperity's web site: Freedom and prosperity…

Obesity epidemic? doc says "fat chance"
Obesity Epidemic? Docs Say "Fat Chance" Go on, have another doughnut. According to some experts whose views are public health heresy, the jury is still out on how dangerous it is to be fat. "The obesity epidemic has absolutely been exaggerated," said Dr. Vincent Marks, emeritus professor of clinical biochemistry at the University of Surrey. Marks is among a minority of skeptics who doubt the severity of the obesity problem. They claim that the data about the dangers of obesity are mixed and there is little proof that being fat causes problems including high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. Such views contradict nearly everything doctors have been saying for years. Being fat has long been blamed for conditions like diabetes, which can lead to heart, kidney and nerve diseases. There is also increasing evidence that certain cancers may be linked to weight gain…
