The cleverest idea
The Cleverest Idea I've Seen In Years This is the cleverest idea I've seen in years (and Apple had nothing to do with it as far as I know): PlayPumps . Kids play on a merry-go-round and pump water for villages at the same time. Girls benefit in particular because they are usually the ones fetching water. How cool is that?!

Linkbox24 is the place to visit for anyone, send our link to your friends ;) It is a place to advertise too. But not with annoying pop-ups or articles no one should want to buy: Only the best firms and products, the new creative inventions or services could have a banner or a posting here. Either if you want to expose and sell some art or antiques, write me if you’ll like that ;) Or search through our huge archives for more beautiful and Amazing, Funny, weird, some Insane, Bizarre or Cruel and some Serious Issues. In that goldmine of links must be something very special and precious for you too ;)

638 attempts to kill Castro - the survivor
638 ways to kill Castro…From the bizarre, to the outrageous and just plain wacky, Fidel Castro survived hundreds of assassination attempts during his 50 years in power, most of them orchestrated by the CIA. Fabian Escalante, the former head of Cuban Intelligence and the dictator's main bodyguard, went back through his records and counted 638 assassination attempts. Many of them were also found in CIA files declassified last year. Two years ago Channel 4 made a documentary, 638 Ways to Kill Castro, based on Escalante's files. Castro himself once said: "If surviving assassination were an Olympic event, I would win the gold medal." President John F Kennedy was said to have asked James Bond creator Ian Fleming for tips on how to kill Castro – and many of the assassination attempts seem more appropriate to a bad Bond spoof than real life. There was:
• The exploding cigar – a scheme to pack one of his favorite Cohiba Esplendidos with enough explosive to blow his head off after a couple of puffs…

Croc hunters son just as stupid as his dad was...
Croc hunter's son unfazed by snake bite. Like father, like son? The four-year-old son of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin wasn't at all alarmed when he was recently bitten by a baby boa constrictor, according to his mother. "He picked one of them up and it bit him on the finger, and he was so proud to have copped his first hit," Irwin's widow, Terri, said Monday at an appearance at FAO Schwarz with her two children to promote a new line of toys. "He said, 'I hope it wasn't venomous,' so I assured Robert I wouldn't actually let him play with venomous snakes," she added…

Even blowing his nose - Obama gets applause...
Even blowing his nose, Obama gets applause. It's probably safe to say that you have arrived as a politician when your audience applauds when you blow your nose. Yes, just a day before a debate in Texas, Sen. Barack Obama has a head cold. And about a half-hour into a speech here, the Illinois Democrat announced that he had to take a quick break. "Gotta blow my nose here for a second," Obama said. Out came a Kleenex (or perhaps it was a hankie), and he wiped his nose. The near-capacity audience at the Reunion Arena, which his campaign said totaled 17,000, broke out in a slightly awkward applause…

McCain says - It's not true!
McCain on claim of coziness with lobbyist: 'It's not true'Sen. John McCain on Thursday denied assertions published in The New York Times that he once had a close relationship with a female lobbyist whose clients had business before his Senate committee. "I'm disappointed in The New York Times piece. It's not true," he told reporters in Toledo, Ohio, his wife, Cindy, standing by his side. He added that he has never "done anything that would betray the public trust or make a decision" that would favor a particular group.
His wife added that her husband always puts family and country first, and is "a man of great character." The New York Times issued a statement Thursday saying it stands by its reporting and that "the story speaks for itself." Watch McCain deny the paper's claims »

Frat "mom" takes no guff
Patty Fisher: Frat 'mom' takes no guff. When you picture a house mom at a fraternity, you probably think of a grandmother-type who bakes cookies and falls asleep at night in her housecoat watching "Matlock." You don't picture Lia Pinkerton, the house mother at Delta Upsilon at San Jose State University. She's 30 - and could pass for 20. Actually, she's more like a big sister than a mom. A student herself, she's majoring - appropriately - in childhood and adolescent development. "When women find out that I'm a house mother, they get this look of horror," she said, laughing. "But it's not like I'm a guard at Pelican Bay or something."
Well, not exactly. Pinkerton is the only fraternity house mom at San Jose State and one of the few in this part of the country. It's her job to make sure the 70 or so members - 44 of whom live in the house - do their chores, treat the house with respect and act like gentlemen. It's a tall order. Burmese pythons squeeze the USA?
Pythons could squeeze lower third of USA. As climate change warms the nation, giant Burmese pythons could colonize one-third of the USA, from San Francisco across the Southwest, Texas and the South and up north along the Virginia coast, according to U.S. Geological Survey maps released Wednesday. The pythons can be 20 feet long and 250 pounds. They are highly adaptable to new environments. Two federal agencies — the USGS and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — are investigating the range of nine invasive snakes in Florida, concerned about the danger they now pose to endangered species. The agencies are collecting data to aid in the control of these populations. They examined Burmese pythons first and, based on where they live in Asia, estimated where they might live here. One map shows where the pythons could live today, an area that expands when scientists use global warming models for 2100. "We were surprised by the map. It was bigger than we thought it was going to be," says Gordon Rodda, zoologist and lead project researcher. "They are moving northward, there's no question."

Saboteurs cut undersea telecom cables???
Saboteurs may have cut Mideast telecom cables: UN agency. Damage to several undersea telecom cables that caused outages across the Middle East and Asia could have been an act of sabotage, the International Telecommunication Union said on Monday. "We do not want to preempt the results of ongoing investigations, but we do not rule out that a deliberate act of sabotage caused the damage to the undersea cables over two weeks ago," the UN agency's head of development, Sami al-Murshed, told AFP. Five undersea cables were damaged in late January and early February leading to disruption to Internet and telephone services in parts of the Middle East and south Asia. There has been speculation that the sheer number of cables being cut over such a short period was too much of a coincidence and that sabotage must have been involved…

Cuba quiet after Castro's resignation
Cuba quiet after Castro announces resignation. Although the news that one of the longest-serving leaders in the world was officially stepping down sent ripples around the globe, Fidel Castro's resignation announcement barely registered in Cuba. Castro, 81, revealed his plans in a letter published in the middle of the night in the online version of Cuba's state-run newspaper, Granma. "I will not aspire to, nor will I accept the position of president of the council of state and commander in chief," Castro wrote. "I wish only to fight as a soldier of ideas. ... Perhaps my voice will be heard." President Bush said Castro's decision ought to spark "a democratic transition" for Cuba. "The international community should work with the Cuban people to begin to build institutions that are necessary for democracy and eventually this transition ought to lead to free and fair elections," Bush said Tuesday in Rwanda. "The United States will help the people of Cuba realize the blessings of liberty." Watch Bush's reaction to Castro's resignation »
