Playground drug scenes raise alarm
DRUG counselors were called to a Sydney primary school because a year 5 boy was daring students to lick ground-up chalk off his palm. The incident occurred at a public school in the eastern suburbs in term four last year. It followed another episode at the same school involving three other students who turned in creative writing assignments featuring a fictional "drug island" and football stars Ben Cousins and Andrew Johns, who were involved in public drug battles. A member of the school community, who asked not to be named, said counsellors were called in. But an Education Department spokesman denied the playground chalk incident was drug-related. The spokesman said Waverley Council-funded youth workers went to the school to talk to the children about drugs as part of the curriculum…

Female dance teacher indicted on sex charges
A 41-year-old dance instructor was indicted Thursday on charges that she repeatedly sexually assaulted one of her students. Sandra Borrego was indicted on 22 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to court records. She is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy who took classes at Most Precious Blood Catholic School in late 2006, police said. The boy said he had sexual contact with Borrego on about 20 to 30 occasions behind a curtain in the school's cafeteria and at her house, according to an arrest affidavit. Watch the Video …
