Japan rejects cal for apology over Comfort Women
Japan rejects US calls for apology over 'comfort women'. Japan today said it regretted a US congressional resolution demanding that it formally apologise for the use of tens of thousands of Asian women as sex slaves during the Second World War, and insisted it had already made amends to the victims. Japan says it has already apologised and that any compensation claims were settled in post-war treaties with its former enemies. It set up a private find for the women in 1995, but only 300 of them accepted the one-time payments of $20,000 (£9,800) each. The fund was closed earlier this year…Remarkable is that 2-300 Dutch women, at that time living in Indonesia, captured by the Japanese in camps….are claiming an apology too! They are right, because all of these women were forced to ‘comfort’ the Japanese soldiers; and that is rape!!!!!

Positive report by Petraeus could split House Democrats on war
Clyburn: Positive Report by Petraeus Could Split House Democrats on War. House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Monday that a strongly positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely would split Democrats in the House and impede his party's efforts to press for a timetable to end the war. Clyburn, in an interview with the washingtonpost.com video program PostTalk, said Democrats might be wise to wait for the Petraeus report, scheduled to be delivered in September, before charting next steps in their year-long struggle with President Bush over the direction of U.S. strategy…

Cheney - Hillary’s request for withdrawal plans helping the enemy
The battle between Hillary and the White House over Pentagon troop withdrawal plans has just heated up again in a big way.

Secret child abuse
CHILD ABUSE: one of Americas best kept secrets. It is estimated that within one week, there are close to 50,000 reported cases of suspect child abuse. And while many people think that definition of child abuse surrounds neglect, more than half of all reported cases are molestation cases. Bottom line; if you know or suspect a child abuse issue may havetaken place, please notify the proper authorities… PLEASE…an amateurship call but the intentions are good… ;)
Laura Bush bashed by Time columnist Judith Warner...
Times’ columnist: Laura Bush resembles deranged "24" First Lady and an evil Harry Potter character…Bush hatred has taken on a new, virulent mutation: animu‘24’ s towards First Lady Laura Bush. Witness today's New York Times column by Judith Warner, as Reality Show [subscription required].
Warner's jumping off point is Kiefer Sutherland's response to a question about the advent in this coming season's "24" of a woman president. Observed the actor who plays Jack Bauer: “I can tell you one thing. We had the first African-American president on television, and now Barack Obama is a serious candidate. That wasn’t going to happen eight years ago. Television is an incredibly powerful medium, and it can be the first step in showing people what is possible.”
That prompted Warner to write: I giggled a bit nastily over this at first. What was next — claims that fingering China as a one-nation axis of evil on “24” had presaged the country’s exposure this spring as the source of all perishables tainted and fatal? That screen first lady Martha Logan’s descent into minimadness anticipated Laura Bush’s increasingly beleaguered late-term demeanor? (Has anyone but me noticed her astounding resemblance to Dolores Umbridge in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”?)
So Laura Bush reminds this Times columnist of deranged, cruel and abusive-to-children characters. I might suggest that the derangement resides in this author, prey to a particularly pernicious new form of BDS…
Illegal immigration
Illegal immigration is a self-inflicted wound. It seems that question has been answered now that U.S. District Judge James M. Munley of the central Pennsylvania district has struck down a poorly conceived ordinance dubbed the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, which sought to punish landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and employers who hire them. More than 100 towns and communities have passed similar ordinances…
Britain lost the art of socialising the young
Britain has lost the art of socialising the young. The decline of the street as a place where children play Goes hand in hand with the atomisation of our neighbourhoods. Nobody would now dream of reprimanding or restraining a child or youth who is damaging public property, frightening old folk or, for that matter (as the James Bulger case showed), abducting another child. So the more conscientious parents, afraid of drug pushers, bullies, paedophiles, speeding cars, or just "bad company", think it safer to keep their children indoors and fully occupied with swotting for Sats and learning the violin. The streets become dominated by children from the more antisocial and dysfunctional families and they are restrained only when somebody calls the police and demands an Asbo or a dispersal order. Adults assume, with some justice, that children on the streets are potential threats, which they are powerless to control and foolish to encourage…
Kid Nation
40 children, 40 days, no adults—eager to prove they can build a better world for tomorrow in the new reality series KID NATION. Settling in Bonanza City, New Mexico, once a thriving mining town but now deserted, these kids, ages 8 to 15 and from all walks of life, will build their own new world, pioneer-style. They will confront grown-up issues while coping with the classic childhood emotions of homesickness, peer pressure and the urge to break every rule. Episodes end with a town meeting in which the kids award one child a gold star worth $20,000, all leading to the grand finale, with an unimaginable test, the biggest awards and a special surprise for every child… groundbreaking TV show concept: 40 children 8-15 running a town with no adults for 40 days. What could possibly go wrong? Those TV programme makers have a great responsibility, so for the parents of these kids…because this can go terribly wrong; kids are no guinea-pigs for commercial purposes…
Hillary makes net root friends
Hillary Clinton Makes Net root Friends. When FOX News' Bill O'Reilly learned that JetBlue was sponsoring the YearlyKos convention, a gathering of prominent left-wing bloggers taking place next month in Chicago, he accused the company of supporting a site filled with hateful comments. Clinton is not the most popular figure in the world of DailyKos. Readers and writers at the widely-read liberal blog and the rest of the netroots are sceptical of her candidacy for president and of her ideological bona fides. But her campaign has slowly won over a growing number of fans through an outreach plan that appears long in the making. First, Clinton announced an endorsement from former Ambassador Joe Wilson, a popular figure among the netroots, on a conference call with bloggers…I can assure our friends and frequent visitors; I Harry did not hear or see any message or anything else from Hillary these days… I guess she’s an-swearing only and not on a real outreach for bloggers ;)
