Netherlands Kabinet collapsed
The smallest party in the Dutch government coalition withdrew Thursday amid a controversy over the immigration minister, forcing Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende to announce his government was stepping down. The collapse of the coalition came after the Dutch Parliament rejected a resolution calling for the resignation of Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk, who had been criticized for her handling of an investigation into the citizenship status of a Somali-born Dutch lawmaker (Member of Parliament). Verdonk led a failed effort to revoke the citizenship of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who came to the Netherlands in 1992 after asking for political asylum, telling Dutch authorities that she was fleeing a forced marriage. She became a citizen in 1997 and was elected to parliament in 2002, winning international recognition as a campaigner for the rights of Muslim women. "I feel very sad about it," Hirsi Ali said in a CNN interview. "There's a complex of feelings going through me at the moment, and I feel the Cabinet should not have resigned over this issue." With thanks to the smallest party, the kabinet is gone now, our country has a lot of problems to solve. This Kabinet did that! I think no reasonable Dutch person will choose ever for D66 again, which party messed the politics yesterday ;(

AP chose to ignore the scores of scientists who have harshly criticized the science presented in former Vice President Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth.” In the interest of full disclosure, the AP should release the names of the “more than 100 top climate researchers” they attempted to contact to review “An Inconvenient Truth.” AP should also name all 19 scientists who gave Gore “five stars for accuracy.” AP claims 19 scientists viewed Gore’s movie, but it only quotes five of them in its article. AP should also release the names of the so-called scientific “sceptics” they claim to have contacted. The truth of Al probably isn’t as much as convenient as he’s talking about ;(

Italy - immigrants better educated...
Italy: Illegal Immigrants are Better Educated Than Italians, Study Finds. Rome, 19 June (AKI) - Illegal immigrants have higher education levels than Italians, according to a new study based on a sample of 10,000 would-be immigrants in Milan. The survey, carried out by two researchers - Carlo Devillanova from Milan's Bocconi University and Tommaso Frattini, from London's University - chose their sample from foreigners who had contacted over a period of 18 months a volunteer group called NAGA which provides free health care to would-be immigrants in the northern Italian city. Despite the limited number of interviewees in the sample and their geographical proximity, the researchers said they discovered that 41,1 percent of illegal immigrants between the ages of 25 and 64 had a high school degree, while only 33 percent of Italians in that age group finished secondary school.
